GAYO MOUNTAIN COFFEE ®
The Holland Coffee Group¹s factory, where Gayo Mountain Coffee ® beans are produced, is located in Takengon, Sumatra, Indonesia. The factory is the only one of it¹s kind in North Sumatra producing high quality washed and unwashed coffee. It is Organically certified by SKAL to bring Organic Sumatra Arabica to market. Gayo Mountain beans are available as organic or non-organic prepared coffees.

The factory is among the most efficient and modern in the world. Farms range from one to four acres in size and are inter-planted with fruits and vegetables, allowing farmers to be more self sufficient in times of volatility. Farmers are also able to deliver their beans directly to the factory, cutting out middlemen, therefore providing them higher prices for their valuable product, and direct access to export markets. The beans delivered to the factory are grown at elevations ranging from 3,200 to 6,000 feet. Most fertilization is done with organic matter because of the high cost of imported fertilizers. The factory enables the Holland Coffee Group to offer a custom prepared Sumatra for each of its customers. Historically, one of the problems with Sumatra coffees was inconsistent preparation with wildly fluctuating cup characteristics.

Cupping CoffeeWith the Holland Coffee Group's commitment to the best coffee being the best business, we strive to develop quality at origin by securing the future of the product and those who produce it. Social and environmental responsibility is, therefore, one of the cornerstones of our involvement with this project. We look forward to sharing our enthusiasm with you. The ability to produce high quality coffee combined with the Holland Coffee Group's extensive experience will allow the factory to maintain and develop its excellent reputation. We can now feel confident that future deliveries of Sumatra coffees will meet or exceed the standards established by the specialty coffee industry!

Gayo Mountain Coffee®
Drying ParchmentDue to the current political situation and social unrest in Indonesia, our factory has increased efforts to provide a stable and rewarding environment in order to maintain it's excellent record in regards to employment stability and quality of product. The daily operations of the factory and movement of the coffee are and will remain vital to the stability of this region. In recent years, the average salaries have dramatically increased and turnover has been very low, thus providing a stable and experienced staff. The factory, opened in the mid 80's during a period of unparalleled growth and prosperity in Indonesia. It was a model employer until the early 90's, when local management and government involvement led to ever decreasing quality levels in terms of product management and profitability. The Holland Coffee Group has been able to bring back stability, quality, profitability, and is proceeding with medium to long-term projects in order to continuously improve the reputation and consistency of the Gayo Mountain Coffee ® and the living standards of its workers and the coffee growers:
A healthy and profitable business will give the factory the needed base for a successful future
Guaranteeing the peace and safety of the factory and its employees during the current political unrest
Continuing education for children (daycare) and adults
Completion of a Water Treatment Plant by Sedimentation
Continuation of local support for health care facilities and clinics
Revitalize and support the local Research Station in order to control quality and increase and improve future crops
Education of proper farming techniques by the growers

Our goal continues to be to offer and deliver a custom prepared Sumatra for each and every one of our customers. We invite you to share in our enthusiasm in being a strong economic and social support in this region and rebuild the Aceh economy.
