While the birthplace of coffee may be Ethiopia, the
tradition of coffee thrives in nations all over the world. Europe, in particular,
nurtured the tradition of coffee, and demanded high standards for production.
Even in 1830, coffee was sorted and graded by experts and priced accordingly.
This price list from the Netherlands, the home of the Holland Coffee Group,
has been unearthed from the archives of our own Peter van Roermund (Holland
Coffee B.V., Amsterdam) to be shared and appreciated by our friends in the
Specialty Coffee Industry. After his father passed away, Peter found the
old price list among his father’s possessions. The senior Mr. Van Roermund,
a banker, would hold such inventory lists as collateral for fledgling coffee
traders. |
